The UCSF Practical On-Call Radiology course is a focused, three-day training designed for radiologists with general on-call duties. It emphasizes rapid, accurate imaging interpretation across multiple organ systems, covering both traumatic and non-traumatic emergencies in thoracic, neuro, musculoskeletal, abdominal, genitourinary, and obstetric/gynecologic domains.

What You Will Learn

  • Systematic approaches to acute imaging cases in trauma and non-trauma settings

  • Identifying urgent thoracic conditions: acute aortic syndromes, pulmonary embolism, acute lung disease, and incidental findings

  • Neuro emergencies: intracranial hemorrhage, infection, spinal pathology, facial complaints

  • Musculoskeletal: joint trauma, infection, fractures, soft tissue injury

  • Abdominal, GI, and GU emergencies: bowel obstruction, vascular emergencies, renal/urinary pathology

  • Obstetric/gynecologic emergencies: acute pelvic pain, pregnancy-related imaging

  • Use of ultrasound, CT, MRI in acute settings and integration into decision making
