Overview:

This is the international meeting for the International Society for Frontotemporal Dementia (ISFTD) which occurs every other yearThis three-day conference will address advances in the clinical, biomarker and neuroimaging of FTD to an international audience. Genetic and sporadic forms of FTD will be described and discussed, as will be the use of neurological, neuropsychological, genetic testing, and biomarkers for the diagnosis of FTD. Related conditions will also be discussed. Caregiver burden will be addressed. We will offer special presentations from international consortium in North and South America, Europe, and Australia that follow FTD populations longitudinally. In addition, new findings about the biological changes that lead to FTD will be discussed. These include abnormal protein folding, abnormal lysosomal function and prion-like spread of proteins. Finally, exciting new advances in the treatment of FTD based upon the basic science discoveries will be presented. The third day will represent the first effort to describe the impact of FTD in Latin America with discussion from leaders in Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile and Columbia.
