This activity will enhance participants’ knowledge base of common pediatric conditions and increase their confidence in managing these issues by providing a review of basic principles of pediatric care. Particular attention will be paid to psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, abdominal pain, reflux, and asthma guidelines diagnosis. Formal question and answer periods paneled by the faculty will follow each session.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians and other healthcare professionals dedicated to treating gastroenterological conditions in pediatric patients.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • State the new evidence-based paradigm of asthma;
  • Recall other pediatric asthma treatment options besides albuterol alone;
  • Outline how to use SMART dosing with pediatric patients;
  • Identify when to refer pediatric asthma patients to a pediatric pulmonologist;
  • Explain the classification of functional abdominal pain syndromes;
  • Recognize various treatments of functional abdominal pain;
  • Recognize “red flag” signs and symptoms associated with abdominal pain;
  • Select which abdominal pain conditions should be urgently evaluated;
  • Name pathophysiology and diagnostic criteria for psoriatic arthritis;
  • Discuss treatment options for psoriatic arthritis in children and young adults;
  • Identify psychosocial aspects impacting the care of children and young adults with psoriatic arthritis.
