Outstanding young oral and maxillofacial surgery residents from the Southwestern and Midwestern regions will present scientific and clinical research initiatives ongoing at their respective institutions of study.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  1. Discuss a broad overview of the extensive clinical scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training programs.
  2. Inform oral and maxillofacial surgeons in private practice about current advances in treatment modalities, new treatment techniques and procedures, and innovative technological applications that improve patient outcomes.
  3. Encourage future oral and maxillofacial surgeons to remain involved in clinical research throughout their careers and to support the expertise and evolution of the specialty.

•Combined Orthognathic and TMJ Surgery
•Bimaxillary Surgery: Planning and Sequencing
•Split-less Bimaxillary Surgery
•Treatment of  Condylar Resorption
•Treatment of Condylar Hyperplasia
•Interesting Cases

Learning Objectives:

Upon Completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  1. To understand when combined TMJ and Orthognathic surgery is beneficial.
  2. To understand what TMJ intervention is required when patients present with combined TMJ and Orthognathic problems.
  3. To understand the sequencing of combined TMJ and Orthognathic surgery.
  4. To understand sequencing possibilities for bimaxillary orthognathic surgery.
  5. To understand the use of patient-specific bone plates in orthognathic surgery to position the jaws.
  6. To understand the physiology and treatment of condylar resorption.
  7. To understand the diagnosis and treatment of condylar hyperplasia
