LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After viewing this program, participants will be better able to:
- Discuss in detail the scope of unmanaged pain in the United States and proposed solutions for this.
- Describe the pathophysiology of pain and common diagnoses found in a chronic pain population.
- Describe general treatment principles, including psychological and rehabilitative approaches with an appreciation of the unique characteristics of a chronic pain population.
- Identify improved risk management approaches to the prescribing of controlled substances and diversion resistant formulations.
This educational activity was designed for practicing pain physicians (within the specialties of Anesthesiology, Neurology, PM&R, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Radiology — all these Boards offer subspecialty boards in Pain Medicine). Physicians enrolled in pain fellowship programs, primary care physicians and mid-level practitioners interested in improving their chronic pain expertise or requiring courses for renewing licensure, and healthcare policy experts.
It is estimated that it should take the average learner 34 hours to complete the activity.
