+ Information:

Internal Medicine for Primary Care: Dermatology/Infectious Diseases/Orthopedics/Pain is an exceptional continuing medical education program organized by Medical Education Resources (MER). Held at the InterContinental Crete in Crete, Greece, this conference is structured to provide office-based primary care clinicians with comprehensive, evidence-based updates across four core clinical specialties: infectious diseases, pain management, dermatology, and orthopedics. Through practical, case-oriented lectures and diagnostic frameworks, participants will explore the prompt recognition of skin and soft tissue infections, management of multidrug-resistant respiratory and enteric pathogens, safe opioid and interventional chronic pain strategies, office-based dermatologic differential diagnoses and biopsies, and joint-specific physical examination techniques and interventions for common orthopedic injuries.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to:

  • Review epidemiology and microbiology of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI).

  • List common causative pathogens for various respiratory tract infections.

  • Evaluate the severity of diarrhea and evaluate the need for treatment.

  • List goals of an antimicrobial stewardship program and strategies for antimicrobial treatment.

  • Identify strategies to overcome the challenges of treating chronic pain.

  • Identify pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic options for the management of pain.

  • Describe the differential diagnosis of headaches and migraines.

  • Design opioid pain management strategies.

  • Differentiate between the presentations and causes of atopic, contact (irritant and allergic), and nummular dermatitis.

  • Discriminate the diagnostic principles and treatment options for papulosquamous diseases with red, raised bumps.

  • Differentiate benign and malignant skin tumors and employ appropriate interoffice procedures.

  • Detect pre-cancerous and cancerous skin lesions.

  • Diagnose and treat shoulder injuries.

  • Diagnose and treat wrist, hand, and finger injuries.

  • Describe the anatomy and function of the knee joint.

  • Recognize chronic injuries and pain syndromes to the foot and ankle.

Target Audience

This program is targeted to office-based primary care providers and other health professionals with updates in primary care medicine.

Best for Internists, Family Medicine Physicians, Dermatologists, Infectious Disease Specialists, Orthopedic Surgeons, Sports Medicine Specialists, Pain Medicine Specialists, and Neurologists.
