Purpose Statement
An expert faculty from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and other nationally renowned academic institutions unite to present Penn Radiology’s Neuro, Head & Neck Imaging. The presenters employ a multi-modality approach for the assessment and treatment of diseases of the head, neck, brain and spine, as well as the blood vessels from the aortic
arch through the Circle of Willis. Nuclear imaging, including PET/CT, is integrated throughout the course, using a whole body approach. Additionally, the applications of MRI, CT, MRA, and CTA are reviewed in the evaluation of neck pathology and the central nervous system. This activity also features new, cutting edge technology integral to imaging practices today, including an imaging gently session that looks at radiation dose reduction, dual energy imaging and MR imaging in patients with implantable devices. Therefore, this activity will provide an update on many practical topics as well as the newest applications available for daily practice.
Educational Objectives
Following this continuing medical education activity, Radiologists should be able to:
1. Identify and appropriately apply advanced imaging techniques including DWI, perfusion, and spectroscopy in assessing neoplastic, infl ammatory/ infectious and vascular diseases of the brain and spine;
2. Differentiate intramedullary, intra-dural extramedullary, and epidural spinal tumors and inflammation;
3. Effectively utilize conventional and functional imaging techniques in the evaluation of neurocognitive pathology including seizures, dementia, and metabolic disorders;
4. Accurately identify, localize, and assess the extent of neoplasia affecting the ventral and central skull base, larynx, and pharynx;
5. Optimize and improve interpretation of PET/CT in the evaluation of head and neck cancer using a whole body approach;
6. Appropriately apply imaging arsenal and strategies to evaluate thyroid and parathyroid disease.
7. Optimize utilization of imaging technology including strategies for radiation dose reduction, application of dual energy CT, and imaging patients with implantable devices (pacemakers, ICDs, shunts, and neurostimulators).
Globally acclaimed clinicians from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine Radiology Department and other prestigious institutions converge to present the Essentials of Body & MSK Imaging. The MSK portions will focus on MR imaging of sports related injuries and degenerative processes, while the body portions will concern the latest CT, MR and US applications and protocols.
