This all new Cleveland Clinic educational activity will focus on valve disease, particularly the newest issues involving structural valve interventions. Emphasis is placed on echocardiographic and clinical evaluation of diastolic dysfunction, as well as new and emerging imaging techniques. Clinical indications for structural interventions and surgery will be discussed, as well as the merits and goals of medical management.
Topics: Aortic stenosis, diastolic dysfunction, right heart function, constriction, restriction, tricuspid regurgitation, contrast echo, valve regurgitation, 3D echo, strain and much more!
Target Audience
Noninvasive and invasive cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, sonographers, nurses, fellows, cardiology nurse practitioners, and physician assistants will benefit from this Summit.
Educational Objectives
Following this enduring material, the participants will be able to:
1. Apply echocardiography to diagnose the severity, mechanism, etiolog, and hemodynamic impact of the many types of valve disease, including aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation, aortic regurgitation, prosthetic dysfunction, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and tricuspid valve disorders
2. Assess the most recent innovations in structural valve interventions and describe their clinical use
3. Translate new guideline criteria on imaging into current decision-making regarding structural valve interventions, medical treatment and surgical valve repair/replacement
4. Utilize echocardiographic imaging for imaging before, during and after interventional procedures, including transcatheter valve replacement (aortic and mitral), closure of periprosthetic leaks, LAA closure, septal defect closure and edge-to-edge mitral and tricuspid repair
5. Gain an updated understanding on new and emerging imaging techniques, including 3D echocardiography, strain imaging, and MRI/CT
6. Describe clinical methods to diagnose diastolic dysfunction and manage disorders such as heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, constrictive pericarditis, amyloid heart disease and cardiac tamponade
7. Discuss role of clinical indications and emerging uses of contrast echocardiography
