1. Overview

Date of Original Release: June 16, 2026

Mayo Clinic Echocardiography Online Board Review course has a focused emphasis on the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) examination format covering the entire field of Echocardiography including ultrasound physics, 2-D and M-Mode, hemodynamics, valvular heart disease, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, and cardiomyopathies, pericardial disease, congenital heart disease, and newer imaging techniques including strain and 3-D echocardiography. Well-known experts and recognized educators comprised primarily of Mayo Clinic faculty, in each field of echocardiography will give in-depth didactic lectures pertaining particularly to the integration of echocardiographic data into clinical practice. The Echocardiography Online Board Review course is delivered through an online personalized learning gateway enabling learners to take a pre-assessment to identify areas of strength and weakness, then direct their learning with personalized study recommendations that concentrate solely on areas where they need reinforcement.

2. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • State basic physical principles of cardiovascular ultrasound and instrumentation
  • Correlate cardiac gross pathology with echocardiographic images
  • Integrate new echocardiographic techniques to enhance disease diagnosis
  • Evaluate cardiac chamber size, left ventricular systolic and diastolic function and right ventricular systolic function
  • Apply Doppler echocardiography in the assessment of cardiovascular hemodynamics
  • Evaluate acute and chronic ischemic heart disease using standard and stress echocardiography
  • Differentiate between causes of heart failure
  • Differentiate between causes of cardiomyopathies and pericardial disease
  • Determine the presence, etiology, and severity of native and prosthetic valvular heart disease
  • Recognize systemic disease with echocardiographic manifestations of cardiovascular involvement
  • Determine the presence, etiology, and severity of diseases of the aorta based on echocardiographic testing
  • Differentiate congenital pathology from normal physiology with echocardiographic imaging

3. Target Audience

  • This enduring program is designed for, but not limited to, cardiologists, echocardiographers, anesthesiologists, cardiac surgeons, and cardiology fellows. Participants with working knowledge of echocardiographic techniques and applications will benefit most from this program.

4. Topics

* WARNING: Videos on other topics are new videos from 2026, while Supplemental Material videos are pre-recorded and therefore from many years ago. These are from the original publisher, Mayo Clinic.
