The Mass General Brigham Neurology Post Stroke Course 2024 is an advanced continuing medical education program designed to address the multifaceted challenges encountered in the subacute and chronic phases of stroke recovery. While hyperacute stroke management focuses heavily on rapid reperfusion and emergency stabilization, long-term patient outcomes rely significantly on evidence-based secondary prevention, management of common post-stroke neurological and medical complications, cognitive-behavioral recovery, and neurorehabilitation. Delivered by leading neurologists and multidisciplinary specialists from Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, this course equips healthcare providers with practical, guideline-driven approaches to optimize survivorship, function, and quality of life for stroke patients.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Formulate comprehensive, individualized secondary prevention strategies based on stroke etiology, including tailored antiplatelet/anticoagulation regimens, lipid management, and blood pressure control.

• Identify and manage common post-stroke medical and neurological complications, including post-stroke seizures, spasticity, central post-stroke pain, fatigue, and sleep disturbances.

• Evaluate and manage post-stroke cognitive impairment, vascular dementia, mood disorders, depression, and emotional lability.

• Apply multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation techniques to optimize functional recovery, mobility, speech-language rehabilitation, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
