Overview

Program Description

This program will focus on the latest research and evidence-based practices in the care of neurological patients. This program will focus on neurosciences for nursing professionals. The multidisciplinary speakers will explore current and future innovations in neurosciences that will lead to optimal patient outcomes. This educational symposium is designed for nurses, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals interested in advancing their knowledge of neurosciences.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe what factors contribute to the development of resiliency when faced with a Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis at an early age.
  2. Articulate how a nursing fellowship can augment comprehensive training to manage the care of multiple sclerosis patients.
  3. Recognize the key role of Hoag’s Crisis Response Team in decreasing workplace violence. Recognize the role of the Crisis Response Team in coordinating care between psychiatry, addiction, and pain when crisis develop. Identify the role of the Crisis Response Team in Code Gray situations. Describe how to CONSULT the Crisis Response Team and avoid a potential Code Gray.
  4. Review the correlation between Epilepsy and mental health issues. To remove any implicit bias there maybe regarding psychogenic non-epileptic seizures and mental health issues in patients with Epilepsy.
  5. Define evidence-based interventions that boost levels of positive emotion and may promote recovery of function after brain injury.
  6. Describe how Vagus Nerve Stimulation paired with rehabilitation promotes neuroplasticity to regain hand and arm function after stroke.
  7. Review evidence-based care that can be implemented in the community for management of spine patients, using a comprehensive approach.
  8. Describe how tumor fluorescence and augmented reality can help make brain tumor surgery safer while maximizing resection.
  9. Define the microbiome of the gut and how it affects our health. Discuss the impact nutrition has on our mental well-being. To review the impact that stress has on the health of our microbiome.
  10. Describe the emergent neuro-interventional management of acute stroke, aneurysm rupture and carotid dissection.
  11. Discuss the management of a Multiple Sclerosis Patient from a Nurse Practitioner (NP) perspective.
