+ Information:

Internal Medicine for Primary Care: Geriatrics/Neurology/Obesity is an exceptional continuing medical education conference organized by Medical Education Resources (MER). Held at the Mar Monte Hotel in Santa Barbara, California, this program is designed to equip office-based primary care clinicians with practical, evidence-based clinical updates across three crucial and high-prevalence domains: geriatrics, neurology, and obesity medicine. Through systematic lectures and clinical reviews, participants will explore modern pharmacotherapy for arthritis and osteoporosis in older adults, diagnostic evaluation of gait disorders and falls, clinical workups for weakness and headache disorders, diagnostic pathways for dementias and movement disorders, management of crystal-induced arthropathies, pathophysiologic and epigenetic mechanisms of obesity, medical and lifestyle obesity treatments, and long-term comprehensive care following bariatric surgery.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to:

  • Describe risks and benefits of traditional pharmacologic agents for treating arthritis.

  • Discuss interpretation of bone scans and identify risk assessment.

  • Assess and manage gait disorders to prevent falls.

  • Utilize current evidence to design treatment strategies for gout.

  • Utilize history and physical examination to distinguish weakness from non-specific symptoms.

  • Describe the differential diagnosis and treatment options for migraine headaches.

  • Discuss evidence-based management options for Alzheimer‘s disease.

  • Evaluate weakness and recognize cardinal features of Parkinson’s disease as well as other movement disorders.

  • Explain the underlying mechanisms and physiological processes that contribute to the development and progression of obesity, including the roles of genetics, hormones, metabolism, and environmental factors.

  • Discuss non-surgical obesity treatment options.

  • Describe the approach to patient management after bariatric surgery.

  • Describe the pathophysiology surrounding obesity and council patients on the various weight management strategies, including patient selection criteria for surgery.

Target Audience

This program is targeted to office-based primary care providers and other health professionals with updates in primary care medicine.

Best for Internists, Family Medicine Physicians, Geriatricians, Neurologists, Obesity Medicine Specialists, Bariatric Surgeons, Rheumatologists, and Physiatrists (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialists).
