Contemporary Management of Cardiovascular Disease in Women
September 26, 2026

This symposium provides healthcare professionals with an evidence-based review of cardiovascular disease in women, emphasizing sex-specific differences in risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. Expert speakers will discuss current guidelines, emerging research, and best practices for recognizing atypical presentations and addressing healthcare disparities. Through case-based discussions and practical applications, participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to improve the prevention, early detection, and management of cardiovascular disease in women, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.

MAIN OBJECTIVE

The objective of this symposium is to educate healthcare providers on gender-specific approaches in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of women with a broad range of cardiovascular diseases.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the symposium participants will be able to:

  1. Identify sex-specific risk factors and clinical presentations associated with cardiovascular disease in women.
  2. Apply current evidence-based guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of cardiovascular disease in women across their lifespan.
  3. Develop patient-centered strategies to improve cardiovascular risk assessment, education, and outcomes for women in diverse clinical settings.

NEEDS ASSESSMENT

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among women, yet it continues to be under-recognized, under-diagnosed, and under-treated. Women often present with atypical symptoms and have unique risk factors related to pregnancy, menopause, autoimmune disorders, and hormonal changes that may delay diagnosis and treatment. Healthcare professionals require updated knowledge on sex-specific cardiovascular risk assessment, evidence-based prevention strategies, and current treatment guidelines to improve early recognition, reduce disparities in care, and optimize outcomes for women with cardiovascular disease.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This program has been designed to provide primary care physicians, internists, cardiologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare providers with the necessary information to increase knowledge and awareness of cardiovascular disease in women with the goal of improving patient care.
