The rapid growth of cancer therapeutics has improved outcomes and survival for many patients while introducing new and significant cardiovascular risks—underscoring the importance of cardio-oncology at the critical intersection of cancer and heart health. This symposium will deliver a comprehensive, case-based curriculum that highlights the latest advances in cancer care alongside evidence-based strategies for the prevention, early detection, and management of cardiovascular disease in patients with cancer.
This year’s program features expert-led lectures, interactive case discussions, showcasing new research and emerging evidence shaping the future of the field. Designed for clinicians, researchers, and trainees, this symposium offers participants an opportunity to engage with cutting-edge science, exchange best practices, and build meaningful connections within the growing global cardio-oncology community.
Target Audience: This program is intended for cardiologists, internists, hematologists/oncologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals who care for patients with cancer or are interested in the evolving field of cardio-oncology.
- Describe contemporary anti-cancer therapies—including anthracyclines, targeted agents, immune checkpoint inhibitors, CAR-T and other cellular therapies, and hormonal therapies—highlighting their mechanisms of action and roles in cancer treatment.
- Outline the cardiotoxicity profiles of these therapies and explain their impact on the cardiovascular system.
- Apply principles of cardiovascular risk stratification based on patient- and treatment-specific factors to guide surveillance and management.
- Determine strategies for monitoring and managing cardiotoxicity, recognizing both the supporting evidence and the current gaps in knowledge.
- Explain diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to cardiac amyloidosis, including recent advances in disease-modifying treatments.
- Demonstrate the principles of permissive cardiotoxicity and apply them to specific clinical scenarios.
- Summarize the role and optimal use of cardiovascular imaging modalities in contemporary cardio-oncology, guided by current guidelines and best practices.
- State the late cardiovascular sequelae of cancer treatment and outline best practices for managing the cardiovascular health of adult survivors of childhood and adolescent cancers.
- Illustrate the unique challenges and strategies for managing acute cardiovascular disease in patients actively undergoing cancer therapy.
