Internal Medicine for Primary Care: Derm/Endo/Neuro/Risk Mgmt
July 02–05, 2026
The Fairmont Banff Springs — Banff, Alberta, Canada
Medical Education Resources (MER)
Internal Medicine for Primary Care: Derm/Endo/Neuro/Risk Mgmt is a four-day Medical Education Resources conference designed to provide office-based primary care clinicians with practical updates across Dermatology, Endocrinology, Neurology, and Medical Risk Management.
The program combines common clinical problems encountered in primary care with practical approaches to diagnosis, treatment, prevention, patient safety, documentation, communication, and medicolegal risk reduction. The Endocrinology curriculum covers type 2 diabetes, lipid disorders, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). The Neurology curriculum addresses weakness, dementia, headaches and migraines, and cerebrovascular disorders. Dermatology sessions focus on dermatitis, papulosquamous disorders, acne and acneiform eruptions, and cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease. Risk Management sessions address malpractice, informed consent, shared decision-making, disclosure of adverse or unexpected outcomes, clinical documentation, and the implications of artificial intelligence in medicine.
The conference also examines the practical use of artificial intelligence in clinical medicine, including its potential benefits for clinical decision-making, imaging, communication, documentation, and administrative workflows, together with emerging patient-safety and medical-liability concerns.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the program, participants should be better able to:
- Develop practical strategies for reducing and managing situations that may create malpractice liability in primary care practice.
- Explain how appropriate informed-consent procedures and shared decision-making can reduce risk for healthcare providers.
- Recognize examples of adequate clinical documentation and understand how documentation can reduce liability and improve patient safety.
- Apply strategies for incorporating artificial intelligence tools into clinical practice while considering patient outcomes, operational issues, safety, and liability.
- Develop individualized treatment plans for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, including diagnosis, treatment, screening, prediabetes, and management of diabetic emergencies.
- Apply current approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidemia, including individualized management for primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention.
- Recognize the clinical significance and potential risks associated with abnormal thyroid function.
- Evaluate the benefits, risks, and appropriate clinical use of bisphosphonates and other treatment approaches for osteoporosis.
- Use the history and physical examination to distinguish true neurologic weakness from nonspecific complaints or symptoms.
- Discuss evidence-based diagnostic and management approaches for Alzheimer disease and other dementias.
- Construct an appropriate differential diagnosis for migraine and other headache disorders and select suitable treatment approaches.
- Apply prevention and treatment strategies for cerebrovascular disorders, including recognition of high-risk presentations and transient neurologic symptoms.
- Differentiate among common forms of dermatitis, including atopic, contact, and nummular dermatitis, based on clinical presentation and causes.
- Apply diagnostic principles and treatment approaches to papulosquamous diseases presenting with red or raised/scaly lesions.
- Use a stepwise diagnostic and therapeutic approach to acne and acneiform eruptions, including selection of topical and systemic treatment according to disease severity.
- Recognize cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease and use skin findings as clues or surrogate markers for underlying internal disorders.
Target Audience
This program is targeted to office-based primary care providers and other health professionals with updates in primary care medicine.
Best for Dermatologists, Endocrinologists, Neurologists, and physicians specializing in Medical Risk Management.
