Overview

The UCSF Neuro MSK Imaging on Big Island Hawaii 2026 program provides a comprehensive, advanced review of neuroradiology and musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging. The course equips radiologists with the diagnostic skills to evaluate complex sports injuries, head and neck pathologies, spinal disorders, and intricate neuro-inflammatory conditions utilizing multimodality imaging, including advanced MRI and ultrasound techniques.

Course Date: Sunday, February 15, 2026 to Friday, February 20, 2026

Presentations will review indications that are commonly seen in general practice. the esteemed faculty will address updates to improve image acquisition and interpretation strategies with the goal of improving communication when referring cases to clinical and academic specialists. Neuroradiology topics to be addressed include an imaging overview of adult and pediatric neuroradiological emergencies, head and neck masses and common mimics, headache, cranial nerve imaging, neonatal brain development and injury, congenital spinal anomalies, and intracranial and spinal infections. Musculoskeletal lectures will include presentations of the major joints, along with reviews of injuries, infection, muscle imaging, and arthritis.

Learning Objectives

The purpose of this course is to increase competence and improve clinician practice in radiology. We specifically anticipate improvements in skills and strategies to:

  • Recommend Ct/MR protocols for brain, head & neck, spine, nerve, and musculoskeletal imaging
  • Recognize critical imaging features to distinguish head & neck masses and recognize common mimics and complications of treatment
  • Distinguish important sella and parasellar pathologies, skull base lesions and important differentials for patients presenting with headaches • Interpret internal derangements and common pitfalls of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, ankle, and spine imaging
  • Implement utilization of diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, including its utility as a problem solver in challenging cases
  • Identify important imaging characteristics of infectious, metabolic, and inflammatory arthropathies of bone
  • Understand the role of imaging in neonatal brain injury, intracranial pressure disorders and autoimmune brain disease to best assist clinicians with patient care
  • Develop strategies for accurately imaging and interpreting common spine and spinal cord pathologies and evaluating post-operative spine scans.
